5 ways AI is changing the way we shoot videos, making it easier for people to take better videos with fewer mistakes. I am on shoots all the time with fx-9′s, Komodo‘s and Mini LF‘s and non of them have the technology my Samsung phone does. Camera manufactures have really upped the chip game and are slowly rolling out AI Technologies.
Smart Camera Technology
The Current smart camera technology is already pretty amazing. Most new video DSLR’s can automatically detect and correct camera movement without the need for a stabilized lens. The FX-9 can track subjects and adjusting camera settings accordingly. This is already pretty standard but the FX-9 autofocus can be adjusted for quick car racing or slow focus pulls. The Komodo with Red Control gives you the ability to connect an Android or Apple phone. This is only a step away for phones being able to implement AI Control over Broadcast style cameras. Premiere can automatically transcribe and caption interviews. I definitely don’t miss the days of transcribing an interview. Not to forget what cell phones are able to do which is truly amazing, they us AI to enhancing video quality. This picture of the moon is just me standing on my side walk during the day. When this technology comes to broadcast camera’s your new 8k or 16k tv is going to mesmerize you.
Using voice assistants for filming.
I don’t know if you have ever had the opportunity to change the frame rate on a Sony F900. To access the full menu you had to press the rotary dial and hold the menu lever and turn the camera on and off and hold your breath. Then you are in a 72 page menu. Things are thankfully better now but running through a menu for every camera on a big shoot can take a lot of time. It will be much easier with voice assistant controlled camera. Pretty soon Siri could be your 1st AC. No longer will you have to have someone to navigate the menus on a 10 camera shoot to change the codec, frame rate and color profile. You will be able to say Siri, Set all cameras to 2160p, Drop Frame, 10 bit XAVC and go ahead and use cine 3. If it works like my smart home it will start playing music. Tell it to stop and ask again. It will probably take some time but soon we won’t know how we lived without it.
Never over expose again.
With HDR and raw color profiles we are almost there. The range that some cameras give you is amazing. The fact that you can change it in post with raw footage can keep you in your proper exposure most of the time. There are instances however that shooting in bright sun with people in the shade that you have to choose. The technology is already in use to bring two images together to create a perfect picture. The outside colors look great and the inside colors also look amazing. It’s only a matter of time until we can use this technology with video.
AI Editing
We all know that a great editor can take your footage from ok to wow. On the flip side, if you shoot beautiful video a bad edit can really ruin a good production. AI-powered video editing software can help you improve your videos automatically. There are already editors that have this technology but once Adobe and Blackmagic get in the game, just wait.
AI Drones
AI drones are unmanned aerial vehicles that are equipped with artificial intelligence technology to enable them to operate autonomously. Think, amazon delivery drones. AI-controlled drones are typically equipped with a range of sensors, including navigation cameras, radar, lidar, and GPS, that allow them to navigate and avoid obstacles in real-time. One of the main advantages of AI-controlled drones is their ability to operate in environments that may be too dangerous of difficult for humans. These could be used for unprecedented war footage, long term timelapse footage, or migration footage of animals.
Wearable Cameras
In the near future AI might help design wearable cameras. These could track your movements and keep your footage consistent and accurate.
The five ways AI is changing the way we shoot videos are: 1. AI-powered video editing software can help you improve your videos automatically. 2. AI-enabled drones can help you take smoother, steadier videos than you ever thought possible. 3. Wearable cameras that track your movements can keep your footage consistent and accurate. 4. Virtual assistants 5. Advanced computer vision algorithms can identify objects and events in your footage, helping you create a more professional finished product.
That is the 5 ways AI is changing the way we shoot videos. In the not so distant future AI videos might faze out cameras all together with AI image generation. Technology is moving faster and faster but for now, try not to come back with blue video.
